What to expect….

An initial therapy session would involve a visit to my practice in Brentwood, Essex, where I would take a detailed history (this first session is called The Assessment). Some of the questions I might ask may seem personal but the more open and honest you are, the more likely benefit there will be for you. You will be encourage to ask questions, too, so it may be a good idea to think carefully about them, perhaps writing them down so that they be fully dealt with.

If you have any questions prior to making an appointment, I would be happy to discuss them prior to meeting up. Sometimes it is important to feel comfortable with someone before you meet them.

I usually suggest that we meet just once for 55 minutes (a therapeutic hour) so you can see how I work, see whether it is what you were expecting and see if we can work together. Deciding to come just once is easier than signing your life away! At the Assessment, we will probably also discuss why you have decided to come for therapy; why now; what are your expectations; what you are hoping to achieve; and assess whether psychotherapy is right for you.

Therapy sessions are usually on a weekly basis and the amount of time you spend in therapy will vary for each individual, depending on what you bring and what you want out of our time together.

One to one sessions are usually a therapeutic hour, which is 55 minutes, although longer sessions are sometimes scheduled for particular pieces of work. We meet once a week, usually at the same time every week, although life sometimes gets in the way and this is not always possible.

Fees are from £60 for a daytime appointment, more for evening appointments. Some low cost places are available if you are not working.

It is important to be aware that 48 hours notice of cancellation is required, otherwise the full fee will be charged.

I will always discuss with you any changes to any of the above.

If you would like to book an initial appointment or to ask me any questions, please e-mail or phone me. I am happy to chat if you would like any further information or to just sound me out.
